Karen is one of our sweetest vendors--really! She specializes in chocolate art and you can find her seasonal chocolate gifts in the shop.

Bud Hough – wood carver (Swansboro)
Bud makes beautiful wooden boxes, from small index card sized to large jewelry boxes. He is a carpenter by trade and makes custom furniture. If our shop was large enough, I’d love to have Bud’s furniture in our showroom! For now, we can only exhibit his beautiful boxes, made from exotic woods such as Brazilian cherry, bloodwood and cocobola, and rubbed to a delicate finish to display the wood’s natural beauty. Gail and Lakita – textile artist (Cherryville)
These two talented ladies form a dynamic duo known as “Quickthimble”. They are so multi-talented, that we feature lots of items from their nimble fingers: Popular crafts are their pink (checked or breast cancer logo) Raggedy Ann dolls with some lucky recipient’s name custom embroidered on the apron, monogrammed lace handkerchiefs made from soft flour sack, totes, golf towels, pillows and more, all with tastefully designed embroidery.

Edith Covington – textile artist (Asheboro)
Edith is one of our newest vendors. Her contribution to the store are homespun miniature cats, birds and hearts, created with meticulous detail such as a button sewn on every kitty-cat. Edith’s crafts are well-known in boutiques around Asheboro, and The Tapestree is lucky to have her homespun, primitive folk art as part of our collection!

Barb Thomas – textile artist (Wilmington)
Contemporary quilts in beautiful silks, and polished cottons with vibrant color and texture are Barb’s specialty. Striking are her bright yellow realistic sunflowers quilted against a jet black background, or a table runner created with pastel fluid shapes quilted onto raw silk. This ain’t your grandma’s quilt. These are fine pieces of art that have won Barb recognition in local quilting guilds as we are proud to show her art in our store!

Barbara Jean Sweeney – jewelry (Lake Lure)
If pearls are your cup of tea, then you don’t want to miss the vast array of fresh-water pearl jewelry designed by Barbara Jean. Not only are fresh-water pearls used, but semi-precious stones such as African turquoise, amber, rhodocrosite and black quartz create dazzling necklaces and earrings to provide a one-of-a-kind piece of hand made art.

Dennis Sommers – author (Lake Lure)
Here’s one Irishman who isn’t full of blarney! Dennis holds a PhD in Celtic studies and lectures both here in the US and in Ireland throughout the year. He has published 6 books and The Tapestree is proud to have Dr. Sommers appear for a book signing back in March 2008 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Wilmington.

Eleanor’s passion is painting and although she holds a day job, she finds time to create masterpieces. Frank Bielski – woodcarver (Wilmington)
Contemporary wood sculpture is Frank’s trademark at The Tapestree. Frank belongs to several trade societies such as Cape Fear Woodcarvers and is a member of Creative Wilmington. His art is graceful, imaginative and allows the mind to appreciate the fluid beauty Frank sets free from an ordinary block of wood. Sally Ann – handmade paper (Wilmington)
“Cardful Creations” is Sally’s moniker and she supplies The Tapestree with a variety of skillfully designed greeting and all occasion cards, created on her handmade paper. Each notecard has a unique design, embellishment and a thoughtful message. Carefully preserved in cellophane, Cardful Creations ads a beautiful and colorful addition to the shop.

Helen Hyatt – handmade paper (Wilmington)
Like Sally, Helen also creates her own paper and designs notecards with a local flavor to them. Wilmington tourists love to Helen’s cards because they are designed with Wilmington, NC in mind.

Luleen Anderson – author (Wilmington)
Another local author, whose book “The Knack of a Happy Life”, is featured at The Tapestree makes appearances all over the country promoting her latest venture. Luleen will be at Chandler’s Wharf (home of The Tapestree) Saturday, July 5 from 11-1pm to meet the public and sign books. Books are available for $19.99 at The Tapestree. Melanie Walter – organic artist (Wilmington)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to Melanie, pine needles are beautiful. She takes what most of us consider yard debris and bends, shapes, and bounds into a variety of functional art. Her display not only features baskets of various sizes and shapes, but also trivets, trays, and bowls. Robin Webster - metalworks
Robin is the creator of "Mimi Tinkles", a delightful cottage industry that sells windchimes crafted from sterling or silver plated utensils, pitchers, plates and vases. Each piece is unique, decorated with colorful beading and silk ribbon and each resonates with rich sounds from the silverware. This ain't your average windchimes, and Robin has experienced good sales. We hope you stop by and see this delightful display! |
